Band communication that doesn't get buried in the group chat

Updated

The group chat is great for jokes and terrible for facts. The date moves in message 214, the attire is in a reply to a reply, and three days before the gig you're texting the sax player to ask if they saw it. GigPenguin keeps the facts somewhere they can't get buried.

One gig sheet per band member, not a thread

Every band member gets their own text or email for each gig, with a link to one page: date, call time, load-in, set times, venue with directions, what to wear, their pay, and who else is on the gig. That page is always the current version, so there's no stale screenshot to find. They answer in, tentative or out with a tap.

Know who's seen what

For each band member you can see whether the sheet arrived, when they opened it, and whether the version they opened is the latest one. "Did you get my text?" stops being a question you have to ask.

Band members can see the same list about themselves, so nothing is hidden either way: what your bandleader can see.

Changes that everyone actually reads

Move the load-in, change the attire, swap the venue. Every band member gets a notice that says what changed, old to new, with your reason and a Got it button. You see who tapped it and who's still on the old plan. Anyone who hasn't tapped gets a reminder. Fixing a typo? Save it quietly and nobody gets a message.

Texts that respect your band

  • Texts go only to band members who agreed to get them, and the first one says how to stop.
  • Nothing goes out overnight. Reminders arrive in the morning, in each band member's own time zone.
  • No app, no account, no password. The link is all they need.
  • Prefer to send it yourself? Copy their link and share it from your own phone. It still counts as sent.

You hear about what matters

You get a text or email when someone declines or drops out, and when the whole lineup is confirmed. Your home page shows only the gigs that need something from you. You choose which alerts come by text, which by email, and your own quiet hours.

Keep the group chat

GigPenguin isn't a chat app and doesn't try to be. Keep the group chat for the jokes and the set list arguments. Use GigPenguin for the facts: when, where, what to wear, what it pays, and who's confirmed.

Who it's for

Bandleaders who book the gig and hire the band for it, especially with a lineup that changes gig to gig: wedding and function bands, jazz and cover bands with a sub list, church music directors, and theatre contractors. For scheduling the lineup itself, see GigPenguin for band scheduling.

Questions

Can band members reply to a text?

Yes. Replies to a gig text are kept with that band member's gig, so you can see them.

Is it free?

Your first 3 gigs are free, no card needed. After that it's $29 a month or $290 a year for every band you lead, and band members never pay.
